Erectile dysfunction medicines seized in Glengormley

8 April 2011

Large amounts of unlicensed medications have been taken by Department of Health authorities throughout a search of a house in Glengormley.

A male was talked to by department officers about unlawfully importing and subsequently supplying unlicensed impotence medicines by means of the web.

The 47-year-old was also about other medication offences.

He will now be the subject of a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

The search was carried out by the department's Medicines Regulatory Group.

Its senior enforcement workplace, Peter Moore, said: "It is essential that we get the message throughout that unlicensed medicines can be unsafe.

"These kinds of items being sold, generally online, have actually gone through no quality control and there can be no assurance about their safety.

"You just do not understand what you are taking or the conditions these items were made in. More significantly, you do not know the effect drugs like this may have on your health."
